Kalapana Lava Hike - Starting at $120!
View lava after dark!
This 5 hour driving and walking tour will take you on a guided adventure through the district of Puna to the current lava flow in Kalapana, stopping at many Big Island highlights along the way.
Our tour will begin with a stop at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm. Here, you'll learn all about Hawaii's most important (and delicious) exports, enjoy free samples at the gift shop, and if you like pick up a few macadamia nut gifts to take home.
We then will continue on to the famous Lava Tree
State Park inside the Nanawale Rainforest.
Next stop will be on the scenic Kalapana Red Road coastal highway, (also known as the King's Highway). Your tour guide will lead you to a beautiful sea-cliff lookout surrounded by tall Ironwood Trees and glorious ocean views.
As sunset approaches we will finally enter the current lava field area in Kalapana, accessed by driving over three miles of old lava flows. We will then leave our tour vehicle behind and embark upon a short 15 minute walk across un-even lava terrain to the ocean. As the sun finally sinks below the horizon, enjoy the iridescent glow and spectacular fireworks display as molten magma flows from Kilauea Volcano’s lava tubes and explodes into the sea!
Note: The lava is constantly moving and changing. At times this viewing area is very close to the molten lava and some times the lava is in the distance. Please email or call to find current lava situations.
This tour also includes light snacks, beverages, flashlights, chairs for lava viewing, telescope and tripod for your camera. Please wear closed-toe shoes, such as sneakers or tennis shoes

Extreme Lava Hike - Starting at $150!
Join us as we travel down to "Uncle Roberts" in Puna. Walk over the newly formed land and feel the heat as a native Hawaiian guide leads you in search of molten lava. Feel the heat under your feet, hear the crackling of the lava and keep a keen eye out for surface outbreaks. This is an experience you don't want to miss!
Lava is a natural event and can start and stop without warning. When there is no Lava visible at Kalapana we will do an alternate high adventure hike for which our company has special permission and training from the National Park Service.
This tour includes a 5 mile hike over un-even
terrain. We provide walking sticks and bottled water.
