Volcano Twilight
Night-time viewing at Halemau'mau
Crater - Starting at $120
“Volcano Twilight” is a fully guided and
narrated tour through the amazing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for
sightseeing, exploring and nighttime viewing into the steamy,
glowing Halemau’mau Crater.
Our Volcano Park is the only National Park that has two active
volcanoes. On this tour you will discover the most active, Kilauea,
which has been erupting continuously since the early 1980’s. Inside
the park your tour guide will show you to the Visitor’s Center,
Jagger Museum, the Thurston Lava Tube (which includes a 10-minute
easy hike through the lava tube!), active steam vents, sulfur banks,
scenic lookouts and finally your tour vehicle will stop at the
Halemau’mau Crater lookout where you will enjoy an amazing view
inside the crater after sunset. The molten lava just below the
crater’s surface creates a dramatic glow and a unique ambiance, a
perfect setting as you enjoy a picnic style dinner provided by your
tour guide
While we have the capacity to easily and comfortably accommodate
large groups, we mostly provide one tour guide and vehicle for each
group of 8 people. This way our tour guides are able to give more
attention to each group and our tours have a more intimate and
laid-back atmosphere.
This tour also includes a stop at the famous Rainbow Falls in Hilo,
and snacks and beverages are also provided throughout the tour.
“Volcano Twilight” is approximately 4.5 – 5 hours from start to
finish if you are departing from Hilo, or approximately 9 hours if
you depart from Kona. (The tour departing from Kona also includes
the scenic Saddle Road drive.) Departure times vary throughout the
year according to the sunset. You will be given your exact departure
time when you reserve your tour.
